The Math and Science Olympics were a blast again this year! Just before spring break the Upper Elementary and Junior High had their annual competitions, featuring mousetrap race cars, estimation stations, penny pirate ships, math & science bowls, and stomp rockets. The kids had a great time with the challenges. The record penny boat, made from an 18"x12" piece of aluminum foil, held an amazing 550 pennies, and was made by two fourth graders - Harmony and Gabie! They got trophies and got to keep the pennies!

Phone systems have been restored to the UE/JH in Piper City.

Tri-Point Upper Elementary & Junior High School will begin taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) Test in the coming weeks. The IAR is the state assessment for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. This test assesses the Illinois Learning Standards and is administered in English Language Arts and Mathematics to all students in grades 3-8. The window for testing opens March 3 and runs through April 18.
I wanted to share the IAR schedule with you. The dates for testing are listed below.
4th/5th Grades
Reading - April 7 and 8
Math - April 9 - 11
Junior High

In addition to testing dates, I also want to share some test preparation resources. The first link shares practice questions released by the Illinois State Board of Education. Once you click on the link, simply select math or ELA and your grade level. This gives you access to several practice questions for both subjects.
The second link shares questions from past tests. Once you click on the link, select the subject and grade level. This will give you several different questions aligned to the Math and ELA Standards.

Back in December some of the 4th grade students participated in the K-5 Ag Day Postcard Art Contest which was sponsored by Livingston county SWCD Farm Bureau. The contest theme was "Awesome agriculture."
Laurel Meister (4th grade) came in second in 4th and 5th grade division.
Congratulations to Laurel, and great work for all who participated in the contest!
Debby Ruff, the Agricultural Literacy Coordinator, visited the 4th grade art class to present the award and to tell the students about the next poster contest.
